In Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," Victor Frankenstein, a driven and ambitious young scientist, becomes obsessed with uncovering the secrets of life and death, and reads the works of alchemists and natural philosophers like Cornelius Agrippa, Paracelsus, and Albertus Magnus.
His studies at the University of Ingolstadt fuel this obsession, leading him to frequent graveyards and dissecting rooms to collect human and animal body parts. Over months, Victor assembles these parts into a grotesque creation, larger than a normal human to simplify the complex process of connecting nerves and blood vessels. Inspired by galvanism, he uses a combination of chemicals and electrical currents to spark life into his creation. On a dreary November night, his experiment succeeds, and the creature awakens. However, Victor is immediately horrified by the monstrous being he has brought to life, setting the stage for a tale of ambition, horror, and the dire consequences of playing God.
